In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The Associate Dean for Patient Care and Clinical Education (ADPCCE) will be an integral member of the leadership team of the College of Dental Medicine (CDM), developing and maintaining clinical education programs that fulfill the vision and mission of the College. The ADPCCE will have the overall responsibility for the patient's oral health care experience and for the dental student's clinical educational experience. The ADPCCE serves as a Chief Clinical Officer on behalf of the Dean, and combines an array of clinic management and operations expertise, problem solving skills, human resources experience, and patient care knowledge; as well as the vision to advance the strategic goals of the CDM Leadership for the College. Additionally, the ADPCCE serves as the Dean's liaison to central administration as it relates to clinical operations, facilities, patient privacy, and infection prevention and control. Success on our team will require excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and a desire to create a collaborative environment that fosters transparency, collegiality, and diverse viewpoints.

Required Qualifications
Must hold a D.D.S. /D.M.D. degree from an institution accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and licensure or eligibility for licensure by credentials in the state of California. Specialists must have completed a CODA-accredited graduate program and be eligible for/or Board Certified.

The successful candidate must document and/or demonstrate: A strong record of teaching, scholarly activity and substantial and sequential administrative experience in an academic setting; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; accreditation experience and knowledge of curriculum planning and outcomes assessment; experience in fiscal responsibility, budget management, and strategic planning; demonstrated ability to foster teamwork, delegate authority and ensure accountability; demonstrated ability to be a positive, supportive role model for students; display a commitment to diversity and social justice; ability to develop and lead a patient-centered student dental practice; and value the importance and impact of community-based dental education as an integral component of the overall curriculum.Must have a valid Drivers LicenseMust maintain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that satisfies the requirements of the WesternU Vehicle Use Policy.

Job Duty
Administration:
1. Oversee the operation of an efficient, patient-centered dental practice that supports the educational mission of the College of Dental Medicine, including implementation and management of vertically integrated Comprehensive Care Group Practices.
2. In collaboration with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education, develop, implement and manage the clinical dental curriculum.
3. Oversee the development and maintenance of clinical policies and procedures in compliance with applicable regulations.
4. Oversee patient recruitment and retention. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Patient Care Services, monitor, report, and follow-up on items related to patient complaints and incident reports.
5. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Patient Care Services, oversee the implementation and maintenance of a formal system of quality assurance and clinical risk management. This will include credentialing and privileging oversight of clinical faculty.
6. Oversee clinical technology and information systems, including clinic management software with integrated electronic patient record, digital imaging, CAD/CAM, 3D printing, etc.
7. Financial Management
a. Oversee financial plans and budgets for the Dental Center in concert with the Assistant Dean of Patient Care Services.
b. Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Patient Care Services on matters related to dental and medical billing and compliance with state and federal regulations that apply. Oversee instrument management systems.
8. Ensure faculty and staff development and compliance with the Strategic Plan for the CDM. Provide direction and assistance in alignment of all faculty, staff, and programs with the direction of the Dean.
9. Collaborate with all curricular arms of the college to implement strategic initiatives and modern technology to benefit our patients and clinical education program.
10. Demonstrate solid leadership in innovation, teaching, change management, and financial management.
11. Participate with the CDM Leadership team to develop a mission-based strategy for allocation of resources and integrated curriculum.
12. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education, oversee the development of clinical competencies, student clinical assessment and evaluation systems.
13. Supervise and mentor faculty managing partners to include issues of faculty development, promotion and tenure (if applicable).

Teaching:
1. Assist in the development and implementation of a curriculum to include the continuum of the dental students clinical experience from foundational clinical skills in the dental simulation clinic, to patient-centered clinical care that integrates basic and behavior science.
2. Provide clinical and pre-clinical demonstration, supervision, and role modeling; small group seminar instruction; lecture; student supervision at community-based locations; develop on-line learning modules.
3. Work with appropriate individuals to develop clinical seminars that support the integration of foundational basic and behavioral sciences and facilitate the development of critical thinking skills.
