GRANT FUNDED - LIMITED TERM POSITION (THROUGH JUNE 30, 2025)

SHIFT: Day/evening/weekend hours | Flexible based upon the needs of the College

LOCATION: Lakeshore Technical College - Cleveland, Wisconsin

POSITION SUMMARY: The Grant Funded Academic Specialist provides unique services to the Medical Assistant program students to increase program success. This position schedules and facilitates supplemental study groups for the Human Body in Health and Disease, Lab Procedures 1, and Clinical Procedures 1 classes. Provide an exceptional customer service experience to internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):

(100%) Academic Support
  • Provide individualized academic support for borderline students which includes development of learning communities (study group facilitation and skills practice group facilitation), referral to LTC Student Services staff, mandatory meetings with students who fail first exams of the semester or multiple exams within a semester, walk-in hours for academic support, episodic tutoring, other duties to be defined.
  • Intrusive advising and supplemental instruction in the medical assistant program courses as needed.
  • Create test prep workshops to reinforce textbook information.
  • Provide additional team teaching on health specific information.
  • Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical nurse, or Registered Nurse with two years of recent relevant clinic experience required.
  • Background in clinical medical assistant duties essential.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin preferred.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to navigate through Windows; access college network system; understand database concepts; and download and manage various applications and files.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technology and be able to support any software or hardware that is used by the College.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of WTCS and Lakeshore's mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Ability to master software such as: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Maintain functional knowledge of administrative software system (PeopleSoft).
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.
  • Use discretion, maintain positivity, and confidentiality.
  • Present and conduct self in a professional, ethical, and respectful manner at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
