JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Certified Medical Assistant provides quality patient care and educational experiences through administrative, clinical, and other duties.
Responsibilities
- Obtains patient medical information and vital signs per protocols.
- Records and reports patient concerns to the medical provider.
- Records patient medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results and vaccines in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Prepares patient and exam room for examinations and procedures.
- Assists provider with examining and treating patients during medical procedures.
- Performs such tasks as giving injections and medications as directed by the provider.
- Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs the specimens, and prepares for testing.
- Educates and communicates to patients on results, follow-up care, or discharge instructions.
- Obtains and schedules patient referral appointments with outpatient testing or additional care.
- Scans and enters immunizations and medical data into the electronic health record system.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.
- Maintains and replenishes supplies and keeps the exam rooms neat and clean.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience as a certified medical assistant.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the state of Tennessee. (COPY OF CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge to record patients' medical history, vital statistics, vital signs, weight height, pain score, and information such as test results in medical records.
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with patients and colleagues.
- Skills to work independently, be attentive to details, have time management, and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team, travel to other locations, and work in a fast-paced, flexible, and adapting work environment.
- Computer literacy and ability to document in electronic medical records.
