Augusta University College of Nursing has excellent opportunities for Full Time Patient Care Technicians to be part of an innovative partnership that has been developed between the East Central Regional Hospital and Augusta University. East Central Regional Hospital is a state operated psychiatric facility that provides care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The Patient Care Technicians will work closely with the nursing staff while assisting with providing high quality care. Augusta University College of Nursing's partnership with East Central Regional Hospital will provide you with the opportunity to work in a variety of areas while providing the academic resources to promote high quality practice and research. Job Summary
Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic health care and support services to clients during their hospitalization. The PCT is an unlicensed assistive personnel who assists assigned mental health clients with activities of daily living, therapeutic activities, and socialization. The PCT is required to be enrolled in an academic nursing program and has opportunities to interact with Registered Nurses in order to be introduced to the duties of a registered nurse at East Central Regional Hospital.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to: Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for clients and visitors in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures. Monitors overall clients' health status and vital signs and reports findings to registered nurse or other designated hospital care team member. Assists assigned mental health clients with activities of daily living (including AM and PM care), therapeutic activities, recreation, and socialization. Assists with dressing changes and other care activities under the direction of the registered nurse. Assists clients with transferring and waling in and about the unit as well as in outdoor areas. Assists with the collection of laboratory specimens including capillary blood glucose monitoring as needed; Follows all safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols. Reports potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or situations that may put a client at undue risk. Possesses knowledge of, and observes special precautions individualized for each client, such as level of observation, potential for elopement, and monitoring of restraints. Records healthcare information including vital signs, weight, height, and client demeanor in the medical record. Transports clients, supplies, and equipment in the assigned unit as well as to different units/buildings on campus. Uses positive behavior management techniques to teach normative, cognitive, and social behaviors to clients. Performs other client related care activities to teach normative, cognitive, and social behaviors to clients. Participates in activities supervised by the registered nurse that facilitate learning the principles of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation/ADPIE). Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops. Participates in client treatment team meetings.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal institution. Must be actively enrolled in an RN Program (BSN or ADN). Completion of Nursing Fundamentals. AND Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Accountable for safe, prompt, and accurate completion of assigned duties. Must demonstrate relationships as outlined in Customer Service Standards. Operates within framework of education and job duties as outlined in job description.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Day/Evening/Night (8 and 12 hour shifts available). Rotating Weekends.
Pay Grade: 7
Salary Minimum: $12.62- $14.78 Hourly.
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
